Niche Site Traffic Case Study – The Niche Sites
OK, so yesterday I gave you an idea as to what I am going to be doing.
Today I am going to talk a little more about the specific sites.
Niche Website #1
As I mentioned yesterday, Site #1 (the BANS site) already exists and has for about 9 months now. I originally played with this site for about 2 weeks. Most of that was just the fact that it was my first BANS site and I was trying to become proficient with BANS. It still isn’t very pretty
This site currently gets on average about 10-20 visitors per day. 85% of which come from Yahoo. I have heard rumors about Google being on the lookout for BANS sites that just use the standard templates that come with BANS and apparently the rumors are somewhat true as this site no longer has any pages indexed with Google. They were there a few months ago when I checked it last. (so, as you can tell I haven’t really done anything with this site since I put it up).
So, this may pose a little bit of a problem with this site. What I am going to try to do is add a blog to this niche site to see if Google will pick it up and at least index the blog. It may also cause it to pick up the rest of the pages again as well. Guess we’ll find out.
This site currently makes me on average, about $20-$30 per month from eBay and $5 – $10 from adsense. The site has Amazon links on it as well, however, I have only sold 1 book for a whopping $1.40 commission.
OK, I guess, from a site that I almost forgot about until the first payment from ebay showed up!
I originally put 2 articles from the article directories on it (keeping the author bio in place of course) and put 5 different videos from YouTube on it. All of these are on separate pages of course.
Niche Website #2
This website hasn’t been built yet, but I have most of my keyword research complete. I have PLR articles and a PLR ebook that I need to finish up, but then this site is ready.
I have my domain already picked out, just have to buy it.
I will be using Word-Flood to rewrite my PLR articles to use my pre-determined keywords. This is a great program for rewriting PLR and you can pick up a free 14-day trial using the link above.
As stated earlier, this site will be built using Niche Profit Press. This is a WordPress template specifically designed for building niche websites. It is less than a week old and was created from Adam Short and Alen Sultanic’s years of experience building niche websites. The template is free, but only if you are a member of Niche Profit Classroom.
The site will be based around the articles and will also have the ebook for sale once I have it complete as this is what this type of site is specifically designed to do. I will not use ebay, amazon, or adsense on this site at this time. It will have an opt-in box on it to collect names and email addresses into an autoresponder. I will be giving away a 7 – 10 part course delivered by email as incentive for signups.
Niche Website #3
This website also has not been built as of yet, but again, the majority of the keyword research has been done.
This site will be built using WordPress and WordBay (tentative choice). I will be promoting products from eBay along with a product from ClickBank.
OK, well that’s all for now. I will be posting in a couple of days as to which traffic method I am going to be applying to the first site.
I will also post the current stats from the first site as a base line to compare future results with.
Here’s to your success in 2009 and beyond!
Disclaimer: Some of the links mentioned within this post, or posts it may lead to, are my affiliate links and in such case I will get compensated for recommending those products. However, I will never recommend something that I don’t personally believe in and welcome your questions and feedback.

I like how you are using 3 different systems to create the site, as this should help determine which ones/if any are better then the other at attracting visitors.
Like you said, Google or the other search engines may not like some of the ways, so it will be interesting to watch.

This has the making of being really good. I always read about some guru who has done a supposed study and gives you the results. It is good to have someone I know conducting this research.

Brett, I will be paying close attention to your progress. I too am a Niche Classroom member, and am intrigued by their new blog approach. But what I really like is your compare and contrast style. It will be interesting to watch your progress and to learn along the way with you. Thanks for sharing.

Brett,
Thanks for the advice on website #1 on organizing a niche site.
I will be looking at Niche Profit Press – had not heard of it before.
I will be following your efforts and hope to start a niche site soon.
Keep up the good work. Thanks.

This is a great idea, Brett! Just be sure to link to them the same from external sources, do the same SEO on them, etc, or our promotion of the sites could skew the results. Assuming they’re all promoted the same way with the same systems, it will give some valuable insights.
Remember too that Google gives slightly heavier weighting to sites that have been online longer, and to domains registered for 2 or more years instead of a single year. Once you allow for factors like those, it’ll be easy for you to judge how to proceed with further sites – congrats!

Great project Brett.
Looking forward to see the results. For any niche research should be done. Adding a blog to any niche site makes a lot of sense as it helps to get traffic to the site and Google seems to index blogs fast.

This is great information Brett since I am exploring a couple of niches to delve in to besides the extremely popular IM niche.
Looking forward to your upcoming posts and staying updated on the various methods.

As far as your niche website #1 — adding a blog tends to work great in many, many keyword markets. This works well for replicated websites (which, a BANS website is more-or-less along this line). Basically, you add a blog to something that isn’t going to rank well on it’s own merits, and you can increase natural traffic to the domain, funnel the traffic through the blog to the main site, and eventually increase the rankings of the main site. I guess that this is pretty much what you stated, but it does work.
